History
The name Slinger (Schleisingerville) was a nickname used by the area residents and became the official village’s name during the 1920s. The village was called Schleisingerville after its founder Baruch Schleisinger (Weil) who was from France. There is a false legend that the name change occurred after World War I, because of an anti-German mindset in the village. In reality, Schleisinger (Weil) was from France and German ancestry was the majority at the time of the name change, so the legend has been proven to be false.
