Williams Bay, Wisconsin Real Estate

Williams Bay, Wisconsin is a village located on the picturesque Geneva Lake. It is home to just under 3,000 residents and boasts a number of attractions and recreational goings on.

Amenities

Williams Bay is home to the Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy, Yerkes Observatory, Belfry Theater and of course, the beautiful Geneva Lake.
The Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy, consisting of 231 acres, is the most intact, undisturbed and highest quality wetland of Geneva Lake. The conservancy’s nomenclature derives from the fact that it was felt that the land was critical to the water quality of Geneva Lake. Kishwauketoe translates, “clean water” or “lake of the sparkling water.”

Like looking at the stars? Williams Bay is home to the world’s largest refracting telescope located at Yerkes Observatory. It has drawn the likes of Albert Einstein, among many other renowned scientists.

The Belfry Theater was Wisconsin’s first summer stock theater and was active from the 1930s through the 1970s. It hosted actors such as Paul Newman during their nascent stages of acting (no pun intended).

Geneva Lake is one of the few developed lakes in the United States with a public path along the shore for the entire distance along the lake. The Lake Shore Path is approximately 23 miles long. Geneva Lake hosts a wealth of recreational opportunities including water sports and camping.

History
New Englander Israel Williams was the first settler in Williams Bay. A former captain of the War of 1812, Williams settled on the north shore of Geneva Lake in 1836 with his wife, her aged mother and his seven sons.
