The Beloit Angel Museum is known world-wide for its angel collection that includes the Berg Collection. Also, included of the more than 12,000 angels are 900 black angels donated by Oprah Winfrey. The museum has a Heavenly Treasures Gift Shop and A Taste of Heaven Café.

Enjoy a nice picnic after a tour of Beckman Mill. With more than 50-acres of land, the county park maintains a nature path, blacksmith and saw mill shop display and heritage garden. Visitors can also fish in the 17-acre mill pond.

For those who love fresh produce, the city has area apple orchards that generate award-winning ciders. Visitors can pick fresh apples and various seasonal fruits. The orchards sell apple pies, apple cider and jams and jelly.

History
Beloit has preserved much of its history with its Native American Indian Mounds, historic homes and city center buildings. In the early 1800s, Native Americans of the Winnebago tribe fled the area when Black Hawk and his tribe were being chased during the Black Hawk War. Among the men pursing the Native Americans was a private named Abraham Lincoln of General Atkinson’s platoon. The platoon made a camp in Beloit on July 1, 1832 during their pursuit.

In the 1820s, the first settler arrived in the Beloit area and traded with the Winnebago tribe. Early settlers were people from many European nationalities. A safe-haven on the Underground Railroad, Beloit saw a solid population of hard working African-Americans. Beloit’s history of diversity has generated a large and diverse population in the city.
