Watertown is a great place to raise a family. Its public school system is top notch, employing only the best teachers and providing top notch education to the students. In addition to its public school system, Watertown also offers a wide variety of Parochial Schools from elementary to college. Its collegiate offerings boast the fine Watertown campus of Madison Area Technical College. Watertown is also proud to have founded the first kindergarten, an educational system brought to the United States by one the city’s German immigrants in 1856.

There is a Watertown transit system which offers residents a reasonably priced option for transportation within the city limits. It provides curb to curb services with cars, vans and small buses. Handicap accessible vehicles are also available. For youth, a “corner service” is available for pick ups and drop offs at pre-designated corners within Watertown.

Watertown offers various activities for residents to partake in. As the name suggests, the city’s abundance of water provides fun for everybody. Fishing, canoeing and boating are some of the more popular activities in the area. Watertown also has two 18-hole golf courses and an extensive park system consisting of numerous neighborhood parks and three large community parks. And in the winter months, the city accommodates locals with two ice rinks and cross country ski trails.

Every year, Watertown hosts Riverfest, a four-day festival at Riverside Park that is completely based on volunteer effort. It attracts over 35,000 people to Watertown and features live music, a carnival, food, 5k runs, raft races and much more.
Architecturally significant, Watertown features the historic eight-sided home. Known as the “Octagon House,” the home is one of Wisconsin’s most popular landmarks. It is a 57-room house that features a long spiral staircase and an ingenious cistern system. A treasure of the city, the “Octagon House” carries a bit of Watertown History.

Watertown was first explored in 1836 due to its valuable rapids and springs. It is formerly known as Johnson’s Rapids (named after its first settler Timothy Johnson) and was at one time the second largest city in Wisconsin.

The inventory of homes for sale fell by 6 in August to 93. This represents 6.06% decrease from July when 99 homes were on the market. Compared to the same month last year when there were 125 homes for sale, the inventory of homes for sale has fallen by 32 representing a -25.6% year-over-year change.

Homes for sale represents the number of active listings on the market during the specified month as reported in the MLS system operating within the market area.

The number of homes listed in August (30) remained level Compared to August 2016, the number of new listings decreased by 10, a -25% year-over-year change.

Median List Price Homes

The median list price in August was $153,700. The median list price for homes in August rose by $1,300 compared to last month. This represents a 0.85% increase from July. Compared to the same month last year, the median list price of homes increased $12,250 representing a 8.66% year-over-year increase.

The median list price is the middle value of all currently active listings as reported in the MLS systems in the market area when you arrange these list prices from lowest to highest. This is a better indicator than the average as the median does not change as much as a result of the existence of a few unusually low or high list prices.
