The month of September is Hunger Action Month for Feeding America. Their mission is to solve hunger with collaboration, commitment, compassion, dignity, innovation and sustainability. Everyone knows that feeling of an empty stomach. When there was no time for breakfast or a meeting was booked over lunch. Or perhaps it’s because there is no food in the fridge to make a meal. In eastern Wisconsin 1 in 7 people face that feeling on a daily basis. Whether it is a child, adult or senior, everyone needs the fuel and nutrition that comes from food every day to focus, grow and succeed.
There are many things that you can do to get involved!
- *Register for the 14th Annual Miles for Meals 5K run/2 mile walk in Milwaukee on Saturday, September 24 at Veterans Park.
- *Encourage your workplace to get involved! See our Tool Kit for ideas!
- *Check out the 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar for more ways to get involved.
*Attend Full Belly Fall Fest on September 19, from 5 – 9 at the Milwaukee County Zoo Peck Pavilion. Enjoy great food while supporting hunger relief.
- Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin team members GO ORANGE for Hunger Action Day 2015.
- *Speak out against hunger on Facebook.
- *Get social! Help change the conversation around hunger through social media. Be sure to mention@FeedAmericaWI and #HungerActionMonth.
- *Give a monetary donation to provide meals to neighbors facing hunger. $10 = 30 meals.
- *Volunteer your time at either the Milwaukee or Fox Valley food bank and visit the selfie station using Hunger Action Month props! Post it on social media using #HungerActionMonth.
- *Learn more about the issue of hunger in your community and help spread the word.
Feeding America members help raise awareness of hunger during the annual Miles for Meals Run/Walk
Join the movement! Together we can solve hunger. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is a food bank that works with a network of hunger relief partners to distribute more than 18.3 million meals a year to 377,000 people in eastern Wisconsin. They have facilities in Milwaukee and the Fox Valley. Since the first donation of a bushel of apples, they have distributed more than 301 million meals to people facing hunger in the state!
