Wisconsin’s horticultural heritage stretches back nearly 150 years. In the 1840s, the earliest organized cultivation of apples began when European settlers planted apple seedlings in Wisconsin soil. By the turn of the 20th century, Wisconsin had 40,905 acres of apple orchards with over 1,000,000 fruit bearing trees.
Commercial apple orchards extend across the state and can be in found in 46 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties.
